Move To San Antonio or Fort Worth Texas?

Main Post:

Hi all,

Moving from NJ in September and I'm trying to decide between San Antonio or Fort worth Texas. Never been to either.

34m and single.

Plan on renting for a year or two then buying once I get familiar with the area.

I work remote but id like to be around the Life Time fitness gyms as I love working out there.

The Fort Worth location is 10761 Founders Wy, Fort Worth, TX 76177, some towns I see around it are Saginaw, Keller, Blue mound ETC

San Antonio location is 5639 Worth Pkwy, San Antonio, TX 78257, I guess its in "the Rim" area, not sure exactly what that is.

It's my last big move so id like to call the next place I move to home forever.

For those that have visited or lived in both, which do you recommend?

It seems the DFW area is up and coming, there is more to do but my fear is that the cost of living and houses are going to be very expensive in a few years there as people continue to move there.

I read San Antonio has terrible humidity in the summer and that its not a great place for singles but its cheaper then Fort Worth?

Huge fan of latin women so I know there is no shortage of them in either but Charles Barkley also said all the women are big in SA, lol true or false?

Feel free to ask any questions, thanks in advance.

Top Comment: Take this for what it’s worth, but I grew up in the New Braunfels area and now live in Boston. You’re in for a huge change in lifestyle. What you can expect from either location is generally living in suburbia with shopping centers and tract housing as far as you can see. At least San Antonio has the Hill Country nearby. DFW is just sprawl.

Opinion on the San Antonio skyline

Main Post:

Facing north

Top Comment: To me every skyline is unique and I have a hard time disliking skylines in general. What a looked about San Antonio's skyline is the beautiful blend of historic and classic high rises and mid rises. It's uniquely historic without generic glass skyscrapers taking over the view. The focus is still the classic buildings. My biggest gripe of the skyline is the observation tower which is a much lesser Space Needle knockoff and never matched the skyline in my opinion. SA is a lovely, underrated, often forgotten city. It has a unique charm to it, especially along the riverfront. The skyline doesn't need to be flashy, despite it's large population, and that's just fine. Historic focus ties in with the Alamo too.

San Antonio is the best city ever

Main Post:

Texans, you gotta check out San Antonio. That place is so full of fun Mexican-American culture, interesting restaurants, the riverwalk (the whole thing—not just the touristy center) is such a fun and relaxing vibe.

It’s more authentic and felt nicer to me than Austin. Less traffic and concrete than Dallas. I’ve only seen Houston once and it was a refinery I think, so I have no idea how it compares.

Anyway, it’s a bit hot in the summer but I the nights are awesome and it just has some of the most attractive people and mix of things to do while also not being a congested nightmare.

SATX is the best city for sure.

Top Comment: Hey! Houston is not “a refinery!” It’s a couple dozen refineries, an equal number of chemical plants, and dozens of other industrial sites. “A refinery.” Sheesh.

Can anybody give me the low down on San Antonio?

Main Post:

My wife and I are considering a move from Tampa to San Antonio. We have 4 young daughters. Reasons for consideration is it gets us closer to family in WA and Southern California (cuts the flight time down a fair bit), its affordable (we have reverse sticker shock coming from where FL's priced at these days), it has a strong Mexican culture which my wife is, hill country is pretty, winters are mild, and it seems to have a lot of cool weekenders around (the Texas cities, Big Bend, South Padre etc.) Anybody able to provide further insight into the area? We're likely going the private school route but would still be interested to hear how local schools are. It sounds like crime has been on the rise? Do you find this to be true? Would you consider San Antonio "family friendly" and/or a good place to raise kids? Are people neighborly? Are the allergies really as hellish as it sounds? Any information is appreciated!

Top Comment: Spent many years in the SA area. Haven’t been there in about a year or so. But I’ll give my 2 cents: San Antonio is a very affordable place! The food is amazing (good Tex mex and even authentic Mexican food, tacos sudados there are amazing) it does have a more Mexican culture vibe to it which means the people are super friendly and inviting. Making friends shouldn’t be hard. Out of all the major cities in Texas San Antonio has the least worst traffic (I’d say El Paso has better traffic but it’s not so much a major city, just a large city), crime is like any big city, it really depends on the area of the city. Anywhere by Helotes or Boerne you’ll be even safer (albeit both are suburbs and boerne is quite expensive). But if you stick with the northwest (more pricey generally) or even west (cheaper) areas of SA you can’t go wrong. Best major city in Texas imo. Has more soul than Austin, less traffic and crime than Houston and Dallas.
